Meet 9News Bilingual Meteorologist Chris Bianchi

Chris Bianchi

Chris Bianchi is a bilingual meteorologist and anchor at KUSA 9News. He regularly forecasts the weather for 9News and its Spanish broadcast on their digital platform. Before joining KUSA, Chris was a meteorologist and Senior Weather Producer for Spectrum News 1 in Los Angeles.

Family

Chris shared on his social media accounts that his father Carlos passed away weeks before his 70th birthday. He commemorated his father two years later in February 2021 by volunteering at a homeless shelter in his honor.

His father was selfless, easygoing, and full of compassion which he greatly misses. He has a sister called Paola. Chris is 36 years old as of 2024, he celebrates his birthday every November. 

College

Chris graduated from Boston University with a degree in broadcast journalism. He obtained his certificate in Broadcast meteorology from Mississippi State University and was issued his Seal of Approval from the National Weather Association in July 2017.

Is Chris Bianchi Married

Chris got married to his longtime girlfriend Kylie Kwyzer On July 30, 2023, in Arapahoe Basin. They dated for eight years before taking their relationship to the next level. Kylie creates content around traveling giving her followers guides and hacks for effectively travelling to different countries.

They got engaged in December 2021. Chris proposed to her on their way to La Fortuna in Costa Rica on a rainy Friday morning. Chris and Kylie love nature and exploring the mountains, they have traveled to over 30 countries together. Their first trip was to Cuba in 2016.

Career

Chris founded a student weather website for the Boston area in June 2007. He edited and forecasted the weather and shared it on his website for around two years. He joined WGCH Radio as a correspondent and weather anchor and later worked at ZDM Design Studio as an editor and PR Consultant.

From April 2010 to September 2012, Chris worked at Mile High Sports Radio where he was the senior producer and host for Mile High Sports Radio. He hosted a sports show every weekday morning and was a columnist and online editor for the station’s website.

In 2013, Chris had the opportunity to intern at KDVR FOX 31 under Chief meteorologist Dave Fraser. He then got a job at ESPN Denver as a reporter and columnist for ESPN Denver website.

Chris got his first main meteorology job in February 2014 at WeatherNation TV. He simultaneously worked at The Denver Post as a meteorologist and at The Washington Post as a freelance contributing writer. 

In July 2020, he joined Spectrum News 1 in Los Angeles as a meteorologist and senior weather producer.

KUSA 9News

Chris joined KUSA TV 9News in May 2021 as the weekend morning meteorologist. Westword Magazine named him the Best WeatherCaster 2024 in Denver. 

In July 2024, 9News announced that they will be revamping their weather team to the name 9NEWS Weather Impact Days. The team includes Laurann Robinson, Kathy Sabine, Chris Bianchi, Ed Greene, Keely Chalmers, and Cory Reppenhagen.

Salary

Bianchi’s actual salary is not known, however, meteorologists around the Oregon area earn an estimated annual salary of between $50, 000 and $150, 000 depending on their station.
