Chris Perfetti is an actor known for his role as Jacob Hill, an awkward and goofy history teacher on the ABC comedy series Abbott Elementary. He has also appeared in other shows such as Crossbones, Looking on HBO, and In The Dark on The CW.


His character Jacob Hill is loved by fans of Abbott Elementary which also made him win the Screen Actors Guild Awards for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series.

Family

Perfetti, 35, was born and raised in Rochester, New York, to parents of Italian descent. His family, including his mother and grandmother, lives in Brooklyn. During an interview with Jimmy Kimmel on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Perfetti talked about his family and their fun interactions.

He said;

“I go back to Brooklyn where there are… um you know loud Italian people and folks walking and talking to themselves on the street and theater and um that’s where I’m at now. Im from a very nice well mannered polite Italian family. We are the Perfettis which means perfect in Italian. They are all perfect, they do not contribute to my mental illness in any way.”

Perfetti studied at Webster Schroeder High School in Webster, New York. He later attended the State University of New York at Purchase where he majored in theater.

Perfetti as Jacob Hill on Abbott Elementary

Perfetti plays the role of Jacob Hill, an awkward and goofy 6th-grade teacher at Abbott Elementary. In season 1, he introduces his boyfriend Zach to his fellow teachers but they later break up in the following seasons.

Jacob is also a good friend of Ava Coleman who is the school’s principal. She likes bullying and picking on her co-workers and is not liked by many teachers.

About Abbott Elementary

Abbott Elementary is a sitcom TV series created by Quinta Brunson. It is set in Philadelphia at Willard R. Abbott Elementary School, a largely Black public school.

The show follows teachers Janine Teagues, Gregory Eddie, Ava Coleman, Melissa Schemmenti, Jacob Hill, Barbara Howard, and Mr. Johnson.

The school is underfunded due to corruption and mismanagement of the school which makes working conditions very harsh, especially for the genuine teachers. Due to the harsh conditions in the school, most teachers quit after their second year.

Ava Coleman, who is the principal bribed her way to become the principal making qualified people for the position like Gregory angry.

Abbott Elementary first aired on December 7, 2021, and is in season 4 as of 2024. Due to the popularity and strong viewership of the show, they received  24 Primetime Emmy Awards nominations winning four.

Acting Career

Perfetti has been an entertainer ever since he was young. He found his way to theater in high school and landed his first theater play with his teachers’ help. He joined a drama school and fell in love with acting and that’s when he moved to New York to pursue his acting career professionally.

His first play To Kill a Mockingbird opened more theater opportunities for him. He fell in love with plays as he felt close to his audience and was more in control of the story while on stage.

After filming ends, Perfetti gets to do some theater plays or shoot another film before coming together to film Abbott Elementary. He also spends time with his family and friends in Brooklyn when filming ends.
