Journalism Career
Kathleen began her journalism career at KYMA in Yuma, Arizona where she worked as a fill-in anchor and evening weathercaster. She then moved to Phoenix working for the Phoenix Suns of the NBA. Kathleen later joined CBS in Phoenix where she was the morning and noon weather anchor and years later transitioned to the weekend anchor.
At that time, Kathleen would multitask between being a weathercaster and working at the Phoenix Station. “When I was simultaneously working for the Phoenix station and the Phoenix Suns, I would wake up at 3 a.m. and head into the station for the morning show, then back to the Suns office. Then, I would do the noon weather during my lunch break back at the station, and then, return to the Suns office. On game days, I would head to the arena to attend the games till 10 at night. It was a crazy time.” She said.
When the station switched to a Fox affiliate, Kathleen began hosting the new show Fox 10 Arizona Morning while also being a weather anchor. She was offered a day anchoring position at KFMB-TV in San Diego but turned down the position as she wanted a nighttime post to spend the day with her children.
Kathleen eventually joined KFMB-TV in 2001 and worked as an anchor for seven years. While there she worked closely with San Diego County Adoptions to connect children into loving homes. She then joined Fox 5 San Diego during its launch and became an evening weekday anchor.
Leaving FOX 5 San Diego (KSWB-TV)
In early July 2024, Kathleen shared a video on her Instagram announcing that she is leaving her anchor job to make time for new adventures.
“It’s time to hang up my anchor cleats. This job, to do it right, is really all-consuming and requires a lot of dedication and commitment, which has been something I’ve been happy to do. But, it feels like it’s time for new adventures. As incredible as it has been to come into your living rooms, I just want to be in mind now with my husband of nearly 30 years.”
Her last newscast will be on July 31.
