Katie McGraw Career Timeline
Before becoming a certified meteorologist, McGraw worked at Scalia Laboratory For Atmosphere Analysis as an undergraduate student forecaster. She was also a lifeguard and Aerobics instructor at Wickliffe Aquatic Center for six years.
In 2011, McGraw joined WMAQ NBC 5 in Chicago as an intern. She worked alongside well-known meteorologist Ginger Zee by doing studies on weather conditions and forecasting. She would also create and edit the weekly weather feature package as well as assist in creating the daily weather forecast.
Additionally, she helped in the creation of daily weather forecasts for broadcast on the air, attended and contributed to community safety workshops, and assisted in the creation and editing of weekly weather feature packages.
She researched and dealt with weather issues while attending Ohio University and was promoted to weather broadcast producer for the 2011–2012 academic year. She also anchored live weather forecasts for WOUB.
Katie then moved to WHIZ Media Group where she worked as a General Assignment Reporter and anchor. She created and edited news and weather during the week, reported on them on the weekends, mastered the use of WSI graphics software, and provided daily radio bulletins on WHIZ’s AM and FM stations for news and weather.
Katie joined WICU 12News as a morning and afternoon meteorologist in January 2014. She reported several daily regional Caribbean forecasts for One Caribbean Television while presenting the weather during live local morning and lunchtime news programs.
In March 2016, Katie joined WDRB News in Louisville, Kentucky as a weekend meteorologist. She developed the ability to report on extreme weather while expanding her social media audience to engage with viewers.
Katie then joined News 5 Cleveland, WEWS-TV in March 2021 as a weekend morning meteorologist. She also serves as the weather anchor for both the weekday midday news and live local weekend morning news for WEWS-TV.
