Lisa Desjardins is a political journalist working for PBS NewsHour as a correspondent. She has previously worked at CNN Radio, the Associated Press, WIS, the NBC affiliate, and Reuters News Agency as a freelance reporter.
Lisa was born in Hawaii and raised in Annandale, Virginia. She is 52 years old as of 2024 born on January 29, 1972. Her father was a college instructor who was initially a Captain naval officer. Lisa comes from a large family of three siblings and seven half-siblings from her father’s side.
In 1994, Desjardins graduated from the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia with a bachelor’s degree in economics. Desjardins began her journalism career in February 1998 where she worked as a reporter for WBTW in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. She then joined The Sun News, a Myrtle Beach newspaper where she was a freelance reporter as well as the Reuters news agency where she was a reporter.
In October 1999 after leaving The Sun News, Lisa joined WIS-TV where she was the Political and State House Reporter. While there she covered politics and government in South Carolina, including the 2000 Republican primary and the debate on the display of the Confederate Flag at the South Carolina State House.
In April 2003, Lisa joined the Associated Press in Washington, D.C. where she worked as a newswoman. While there, reported on the Iraq war, Medicaid, hurricanes, and the 2004 presidential election.

CNN
In September 2005, Lisa joined CNN where she worked as a Senior Correspondent and Capitol Hill Reporter for both CNN and CNN radio. She covered the U.S. Congress, politics, and policy in America for both television and radio as well as digital news networks. She also covered worldwide news such as the 2006 Israel-Lebanon War, the Upper Big Branch and Sago mining disasters, and the Tuscon shooting.
Her coverage of the 2010 Haiti earthquake earned her a Sigma Delta Chi Award. In 2013, she was transferred to CNN in Washington after CNN Radio was shut down. In 2008, CNN won the Peabody Award for their extensive coverage of the 2008 presidential primaries which Lisa was part of.
PBS NewsHour
Losa joined PBS NewsHour in October 2014 after being laid off by CNN in August of that year. She first began as a Political reporter and later transitioned to political director in July 2015. She currently works as a Capitol Hill Correspondent and also writes articles for the NewsHour website.
When violent rioters attacked the U.S. Capitol building on January 6, 2021, Desjardins was inside covering the counting and certification of the 2020 Presidential Electoral College votes. She continued to broadcast live throughout the attack despite being attacked by a rioter, and she was taken to the Longworth House Office Building with staff members and members of Congress.
Lisa returned later that evening to discuss the postponed certification procedure, and he stayed at the Capitol until 3:45 AM the next day. For its reporting on January 6, 2022, PBS NewsHour won a Peabody Award. She was the only reporter to broadcast live from the Capitol outside of the area that was under lockdown.
