Michael Barkann is an American sports journalist working as a reporter, host, and anchor for NBC Sports Philadelphia. He hosts the network’s Philadelphia Phillies and Philadelphia Eagles pregame and postgame coverages.
Before joining NBC Sports, Barkann worked as a host and reporter at CBS Radio 94WIP, CBS Sports, and USA Networks.
Family
Barkan was raised in East Brunswick, New Jersey by his parents Carol and Jeremy Alan Barkann. He has a younger brother and sister. Barkann is 64 years old as of 2024, he was born on April 30, 1960, in Jersey City, New Jersey.
Wife and Children
Barkann and his wife Ellen Barkann got married in September 1992 at White Manor Country Club. Ellen was a figure skater during her teenage years who competed nationally in ice dancing winning awards at her young age. She founded her company in 2005, which serves as a talent marketing agency for local and national athletes and sports media members. Ellen is also the president of The Barkann Family Healing Hearts Foundation.
Michael and Ellen have two children Emily Barkann and Matthew Barkann. Emily is an Emmy award-winning journalist and the chief white house correspondent for AKSM Media. Matthew graduated with a degree in Urban Studies and Real Estate. He is now a real estate agent living in Havertown.

Foundation
Michael and Ellen founded their foundation called Barkann Family Healing Hearts Foundation in 2013. The foundation aims to help heal the hearts of families across the Delaware Valley whose hearts have been broken by the sudden illness or sudden loss of life of a loved one.
Barkann’s Career Timeline
Barkann studied at East Brunswick High School. He later graduated from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University with a B.S. in Broadcast Journalism. He began his career in May 1982 at NBC News as a desk assistant and months later, he moved to New Jersey Network as a sports anchor and reporter.
Barkann later worked at KYW-TV as a sports anchor and reporter, WLVI-TV as a sports director, CBS Sports as a reporter, and USA Networks as a reporter and host. In September 2011, Barkann joined CBS Radio as the host of “Mike & Ike Show” on SportsRadio 94.1 WIP.
Barkann joined NBC Sports Philadelphia in October 1997 initially as the host of the live sports talk show, Daily News Live. He has since hosted the show for more than 20 years after its rebranding to Philly Sports Talk.
While at CBS Sports, Barkann covered the Fiesta Bowl in 1997, the Olympic Winter Games in Albertville, France in 1992, the Olympic Winter Games in Lillehammer, Norway in 1994, and the Olympic Winter Games in Nagano, Japan in 1998.
