Nate Burleson is known to many as a former NFL player and sports commentator. He played college football for the Nevada Wolf Pack in 2002 and was drafted into the NFL in 2003 by the Minnesota Vikings. Burleson has played professionally for the Seattle Hawks, Detroit Lions, and Cleveland Browns.

Burleson joined CBS Mornings in 2021 as a co-host alongside Tony Dokoupil and Gayle King. However, this is not his first time on television as a host. Burleson worked as an analyst for the NFL Network and a color commentator for the Detroit Lions Television Network.

Nate was born to his parents Alvin and Valerie Burleson. His father played professional football for the Calgary Stampeders in the Canadian Football League (CFL) in the 1970s. He was raised alongside his siblings Kevin, Alvin Jr, and Lyndale Burleson.

His brother Kevin Burleson played basketball for the Charlotte Bobcats of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Nate and his younger brother Lyndale Burleson founded the Lionblood clothing brand.

Nationality

Burleson holds both American and Canadian citizenship. His family lived in Canada while his father played for the Calgary Stampeders. They moved back to the United States when his father signed with the  Los Angeles Express in 1983. Burleson has a tattoo of a maple leaf which represents his Canadian citizenship.

Burleson began playing professionally in 2003 after being selected by the Minnesota Vikings during the 2003 NFL Draft. He then signed a seven-year deal with Seattle Hawks worth $49 million in March 2006.

In September 2008, Burleson tore a ligament in his knee during a match against the Bills and had to step out of the game for the remainder of the season. In March 2010, Burleson signed a contract with the Detroit Lions but his career again was cut shot after being involved in a car accident in September 2013.

After being cut off by the Lions, Burleson joined the Cleveland Browns on a one-year deal in April 2014 but was cut on August 30 that year. He officially retired from football and began his work as a commentator and football analyst. Burleson has never played in the Super Bowl, however, he was one of the analysts for the Super Bowl week in February 2024.

TV Career

After retiring from football in 2014, Burleson joined NFL Network as an analyst. He co-hosted the show  Good Morning Football on NFL Network alongside Peter Schager, Kyle Brandt, and Kay Adams. He was also an analyst for The NFL Today during the 2017 season.

In 2021, Burleson was named the new host of  CBS Mornings replacing Anthony Mason. He simultaneously hosted  NFL Slimetime on Nickelodeon alongside Gabrielle Nevaeh Green and Noah Eagle. During the Super Bowl in February 2024, Burleson was an analyst and co-host on CBS and Nickelodeon.

Many people joked that he is the only person receiving airtime apart from Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes because he was busy during the Super Bowl week.

Burleson is married to Atoya Burleson. Atoya is an athlete, businesswoman, fashionista, and influencer as she describes herself. She is the host and CEO of the inSIDELINES Podcast. Atoya and Nate have two children Nehemiah Burleson and Nathaniel Burleson II.
