Who is Rich Marriott?
Rich Marriott is an American Senior meteorologist at KING-TV. He joined the station in December 1987 as a meteorologist and was promoted to Senior meteorologist in January 2017.
Marriott is also a consulting meteorologist, avalanche forecaster, and educator at Richard Marriott Consulting. He has been a private consultant on meteorology since 1975.
Age
Marriott is probably in his 70s, he was born in Long Beach, California. He celebrates his birthday every June 15. In June 2018, his co-hosts surprised him with a birthday tribute from his six-year-old son at the time and a cake to celebrate his birthday and Father’s Day.

Marriott is married and has adult and young children together with two granddaughters. He rarely shares information about his family publicly. His younger son shared a birthday tribute to him in 2018 which was aired on the morning broadcast.

Marriott’s Career Timeline
Marriott holds a Master of Science in Meteorology as well as a Bachelor of Science in Physics from the University of California, Los Angeles. He also graduated in 1978 from the University of Washington after studying Atmospheric Sciences and Meteorology.
Since joining KING 5 31 years ago, Marriott has had the amazing opportunity to forecast the weather in Washington for almost 43 years. The fact that he had no intention of appearing on television just makes it more amazing.
During his time at UCLA, he did extensive research on the Earth’s upper atmosphere, including computer simulations of the global cycle. He had intended to work for the space program because it was an exciting area of research.
Nonetheless, the space program ceased after the moon landed just as he was finishing up his graduate work. He decided to change paths and enroll in the UW graduate program to study avalanches and mountain weather.
Marriott got to spend a lot of his time in the mountains as part of his tasks, inspecting the safety of the snowpack, instructing avalanche courses, and setting up some of the first remotely telemetered mountain weather stations in the Northwest.
He has periodically served as a consultant for weather and avalanche planning over the years.
Marriott is still very engaged in the snow and avalanche community as General Secretary of the Steering Committee for the Worldwide Snow Science Workshop (ISSW), one of the premier international conferences on these subjects.
Surgery
According to reports, Marriott underwent surgery in October 2021. He took a break from work to attend to a health issue that wasn’t life-threatening. Fortunately, he overcame the process and he is back to his favorite job.
